- Fits the K40
A compact aluminum alignment device with a transparent target, built to centre a CO2 laser's beam at each mirror and the lens. It turns tape-and-guess alignment into a repeatable job.
The classic K40 alignment method is masking tape over a mirror opening and a quick pulse of the laser. It works, but every piece of tape sits a little differently, and you judge the burn against the mount's rim by eye. QIDALASER's tool gives you a fixed reference instead.
The kit is simple hardware: a CNC-machined black anodized aluminum base, a transparent polymer alignment puck, and a stainless steel hex bolt. The low-profile body is designed to sit in the tight spaces around a K40's mirror mounts and head without fouling the gantry. Check the photos against your own mounts to see how it seats before you order.
What a fixed target buys you:
Tape still has a place. It is cheap, it fits every mount, and it is the fallback when a tool does not seat in an odd mount. Many owners use both: tape for a quick check, the tool for a full re-square.
The goal is the same either way. The beam should hit the centre of every mirror and enter the head straight, so it leaves the lens centred and square to the work. Anything else costs power and puts angled edges on your cuts. The full K40 alignment walkthrough explains why a machine that cut yesterday can stop cutting today.

Alignment always runs downstream, starting at the mirror nearest the tube. Adjust a later mirror first and you will chase your tail. Keep the laser at low power for every pulse; you want a mark, not a hole.
Change one adjustment screw at a time, in small turns, and re-pulse after each. Write down which screw moves the mark which way; it saves time next session.
The FONLAND nut tool helps when a mirror needs cleaning mid-job.
QIDALASER pitches the tool for routine tune-ups and for recalibrating after you replace a tube, mirrors or focus lens. Those are exactly the moments a K40's beam path moves. A new tube never sits in its brackets quite like the last one.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| Cuts well near the tube, weak in the far corner | Beam drifting along the gantry | Mirror two, near and far |
| Cut edges lean at an angle | Beam entering the head off-square | Mirror three and head input |
| Power dropped after a tube swap | New tube sits differently | Mirror one and tube mounts |
| Weak everywhere, alignment looks fine | Dirty optics or tired tube | Clean lens and mirrors first |
Build alignment checks into these events:
Before you blame alignment for weak cutting, clean the optics. A hazy lens loses more power than a slightly off-centre beam, and cleaning takes five minutes. If power is still low with clean optics and a centred beam, look at the tube and supply; the K40 tube and supply notes cover the signs of each wearing out.
Tube replacements in particular deserve a full re-square. Tubes like the 700mm 40W units sold for the K40 vary slightly in diameter and output position, so the beam entering mirror one moves even when the brackets do not.
QIDALASER describes the tool as compatible with a wide range of CO2 laser machines, including the K40 and custom DIY builds. That is a broad claim for hardware that has to sit in a mirror mount. Confirm it will seat in yours.
Upgraded K40 heads and aftermarket mirror mounts often differ from the stock parts, so check against what is fitted now, not what the machine shipped with.
Know what alignment cannot fix:
Compared with the alternatives, this is a simple tool that saves time mainly for owners who re-align often. If you align once a year, tape does the job. If you swap tubes, mirrors or heads, or run a machine that gets moved around, the fixed reference pays back in saved sessions.
Whatever method you use, alignment is lid-open work. Put the MCWlaser 10,600nm glasses on first. Optics and alignment tools have their own place in the K40 upgrade order.
QIDALASER names the K40 among compatible machines. Compare the base with your mirror mounts and head input, especially on upgraded parts.
Yes. Alignment means firing with the lid open. Wear glasses rated for 10,600nm for every pulse.
After shipping, after any tube, mirror, lens or head replacement, after moving the machine, and whenever cutting is weak in one part of the bed.
No. Reposition or shim the tube mounts first; mirror adjustments can only compensate so far.
