That is not a flaw in the mirror. It is a mismatch in the machine. Larger CO2 machines with long beam paths often use 25mm or 30mm mirrors, because a wider mirror gives the beam more room to wander and spread without clipping the edge.

• Stock K40: usually 20mm mirrors. This 30mm mirror does not fit.
• K40 with aftermarket mounts: check the mount's seat size; 25mm is more common than 30mm on K40 rebuilds.
• Larger CO2 machines: 30mm mounts are where this mirror drops straight in.

BLUETIMES describes the gold coating as hard and resistant to heat and scratching, which is fair for a coated mirror. It is still a coating, thinner and softer than an uncoated molybdenum surface, so clean it with care.

1. Wear powder-free nitrile gloves and hold the mirror by the rim.
2. Blow off loose dust with a hand air blower.
3. Wipe once, lightly, with a lens tissue or swab wet with isopropyl alcohol.
4. Follow with a fresh dry tissue if any streak remains; never scrub.
5. Inspect under a torch for burns or bare patches before refitting.

Air assist and a strong exhaust do more for mirror life than any cleaning routine. Smoke that never reaches the beam path never has to be wiped off, and every wipe carries a small risk to the coating.

A mirror with a burnt spot in the beam's path should be replaced. The damaged patch absorbs heat, and a silicon disc can crack under uneven heating.

After fitting any new mirror, realign the path from the tube forward. Use the tape-target method from the alignment guide, and never fire a test pulse without 10600nm safety glasses on.

• 20mm: the K40 stock size. A like-for-like upgrade from K9 glass mirrors.
• 25mm: for K40s with upgraded mounts, and many mid-size machines.
